Be Prepared For Summer Storms

Summer storm damage can be catastrophic

Michigan is notorious for sudden, violent spring and summer storms. You can be one step ahead of Mother Nature with a well-stocked Emergency Supply Kit. Your kit should be assembled and easily accessible in the event of an emergency or evacuation.

The America Red Cross recommends stocking a 3-day supply of essentials. Keep in mind it may take that long for help to arrive.

Recommended Items to Include in an Emergency Supply Kit:

  • Water, one gallon of water per person per day for drinking and sanitation
  • Food, at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food and can opener
  • Battery-powered or hand crank NOAA Weather Radio with extra batteries
  • Flashlight and extra batteries
  • First aid kit
  • Prescriptions, contact lens, glasses and hearing aids w extra batteries
  • Copies of personal doucments including medication lists, proof of address, deed/lease to home, passports, birth certificates and insurance policies)
  • Whistle to signal for help
  • Dust masks to filter dirty air
  • Plastic sheeting and duct tape to shelter in place
  • Moist towelettes, garbage bags and plastic ties for personal sanitation
  • Tool kit and work gloves
  • Local maps
  • Phone chargers with car adapters
  • Extra car and house keys
  • Matches
  • Pet supplies
